Lizard Point
Cornwall and Britain's most Southerly point. The Lizard Point is extremely well exposed to swell. Fierce tidal races can form off the point on Spring tides as deep water is forced up and around a shallower plateau of rocky ground. Launching is possible in very low swell from a small beach and slipway beside the old lifeboat station. Rough ground and reefs are found around the point with deep cleaner ground being found further offshore. This mark should only be fished by experienced paddlers who are used to rough water and negotiating faster tides and overfalls. A steep slipway leads down to the water and is not easy to pull your kayak up single-handedly!
Parking: A small National Trust car park is located above the slipway.
Species: Pollack, Bass and the occasional Codling and Wrasse will show over rough ground to lures. Big Bull Huss and Conger if anchored over rough ground close to shore. Mackerel and Garfish in season.
Nearest Tackle Shop: Terminal Tackle at Penryn and Last Stop Tackle Shop at The Lizard
