Porthpean
Porthpean is a sheltered south-easterly facing sandy beach located on the east side of St Austell Bay. It is a popular beach in the summer months and is a safe place to launch the kayak when the swell is low. Launching gives good access to St Austell Bay. A short paddle to the North East takes you to the picturesque Charlestown. Shallow clean ground predominates but some patches of broken and rough ground can be found along the coast by paddling south towards Black Head.
Parking: A large pay and display car park is located approx. 100 metres from the beach. Access to the beach is down a slipway.
Species: Plaice, Gurnards and Whiting may show to drift fished baits over the clean ground. Pollack, Wrasse, Codling, Pouting and Bass are possible over the rough ground and reefs towards and around Black Head. Mackerel and Garfish in season.
